Now that school is back in session and fall is here, it’s fun to make some accessories for the cooler weather – a crochet scarf certainly fits the bill!

While it seems to be the trend, fall usually means a much darker color palette for clothing. I understand this trend but it doesn’t mean you can’t add a pop of color to those darker, drab colors.

I was inspired to make something colorful when I came across the Caron Cakes yarn ‘Rainbow Sherbet’. Wow, will this exciting yarn help to brighten up an outfit!

When my daughter Noelle saw the Caron Cakes yarn she asked me to make her something that she could wear to school. I have fallen in love with the adorable triangle scarves I’ve been seeing all over Pinterest so I decided that would be my new project.

This triangle crochet scarf pattern is ridiculously easy to make and uses the simple granny square stitch. Speaking of simple shapes like the triangle, I would also like to recommend two fun classes…Crochet Anything with Rectangles and Crochet Anything with Hexagons.

It’s so easy in fact, you’ll be able to whip it up in an hour or two. I would even go so far as saying it’s a beginner-friendly crochet pattern. It makes a perfect one-skein crochet project too!

It’s also customizable for sizing – if you want a smaller crochet scarf (for a small child), then don’t make so many rows and if you’d like it larger, crochet more rows.

FRINGE:

Cut 80 strands of yarn, each 13” long.

For each section of fringe: Hold 2 strands together and fold in half to form a loop at one end.  Match the cut ends of the yarn on the other end. Use your hook to draw the loop through the  desired stitch. Draw the cut ends through the loop to create a knot. Holding the knot with one  hand, pull gently on the fringe ends with your other hand, tightening the knot until it’s secure.

In this manner, place 40 sections of fringe evenly spaced across the bottom edge of the scarf.  There should be 20 on each side of the tassel.

BUTTON:

Sew your chosen button to the top corner tip of your scarf. You can sew through both layers  for a permanent join, or sew the button onto one layer and use a ch-1 sp on the other layer as a  buttonhole.
