Easy Striped Crochet Baby Hat Pattern

Knowing how to crochet a hat is so simple, and crochet baby hats are always fun to work on. I know you’ll love this crochet baby hat as much as I do.

This cute pattern is made using a simple design with two stripes at the bottom and a textured border. I like to use light shades such as mint and grey for mine, but you can choose any colors.

These crocheted hats use a series of basic crochet stitches. They all add texture and style to this otherwise simple baby hat crochet pattern.

This is a great crochet newborn hat pattern. I made the knit blanket for my daughter’s gymnastics coach who is expecting. This hat baby beanie would be the perfect addition to my gift.

If you’re just learning how to crochet a baby hat, making some for a local charity is great practice. I like to donate baby caps to local hospitals and women’s shelters to help out.

This newborn hat is made out of Berroco Vintage DK weight yarn. It’s smooth and silky, perfect for a baby’s soft skin. It’s an acrylic wool blend and has a polished finish.

These crochet baby boy hats or girl hats can be made for 0-3 months or 3-6 months. It’s really easy to adjust the size. They’re the perfect baby winter hat to keep little ones cozy this season.

Front post double crochet (fpdc): Yo, insert hook from front to back to front again around post of indicated st, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] twice.

Back post double crochet (bpdc): Yo, insert hook from back to front to back again around post of indicated st, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] twice.

Note:
Although this pattern is made with two colors, it can also be made as a one-skein pattern if you choose to use one color.

Baby Hat Pattern

Size 0-3 months

With A, ch 3.

Rnd 1: 9 dc in 3rd ch from hook (skipped chs count as additional dc), join with sl st in top of first st. (10 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout), 2 dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc. (20 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next st, [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] around, join with sl st in top of first dc. (30 dc)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in each of next 2 sts, [2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts] around, join with sl st in top of first dc. (40 dc)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in each of next 3 sts, [2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts] around, join with sl st in top of first dc. (50 dc)

Rnds 6-8: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc, change to B.

Rnd 9: With B, ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first sc, change to A.

Rnd 10: With A, ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc, change to B.

Rnds 1-5: Work as for rnds 1-5 of 0-3 month size.

Rnd 6: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in each of next 4 sts, [2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts] around, join with sl st in top of first dc. (60 dc)

Rnds 7-9: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc, change to B.

Rnd 10: With B, ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first sc, change to A.

Rnd 11: With A, ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc, change to B.

Rnd 13: With A, ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of first dc.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
