Baby Mittens Crochet Pattern

Don’t you just love how cozy and snuggly gloves and mittens are? They’re the perfect accessory for chilly winter days. And as adults, we aren’t the only ones who love crochet mittens. Babies love a good pair of baby mittens too!

This mitten pattern is one of the sweetest free crochet baby patterns you’ll find. And it’s so easy too. The infant mittens are made in two colors out of Berroco Vintage DK yarn. It’s an acrylic wool nylon blend and is machine washable. That makes it the best fit for baby crochet patterns.

Baby patterns are usually very basic because of their size and the fact that babies grow so quickly. These crochet baby mitts remain easy to make, but add a little bit of flair, unlike most quick and easy crochet patterns.

These crochet baby mittens have delicate white detailing along the top of the mitten where it meets your wrist. They use basic crochet stitches like single crochet and double crochet. They also work in the front and back post for some stitches.

This creates a fun pattern, especially if you’re learning how to crochet mittens for the first time. Crocheting baby mittens doesn’t have to be boring. It can be fast and exciting. And you know these crochet mittens are going to be cute as a button.

PATTERN NOTES:

This pattern uses the Front Post Double Crochet stitch and the Back Post Double Crochet stitch which are slight variations of the double crochet. The trick is inserting your hook the right way into the stitch from the row below.

Front Post Double Crochet – Instead of inserting your hook in the chain at the top of the stitch, insert the hook behind the post then back to the front, pushing the post to the front. If you are right-handed, that means you will be working right to left across the row.

Back Post Double Crochet – The bpdc is the reverse of the fpdc, your hook goes through the back of the stitch below. You will insert your hook from the back of the work towards the front of the work and then to the back again. When you first insert your hook, the post that you want to crochet around will be sitting in “back” of your hook.

Cuff – When you get to the cuff section of this mitten, switch to the 3.75mm hook to help make this part a little tighter so the crochet mittens don’t slip off baby’s hands too easily.
