Color Block Bag Crochet Pattern

Lately, I’ve found myself becoming more and more obsessed with color blocking.  It looks so modern and is a great way for me to combine colors in my patterns.

Since I’ve been on the color block bandwagon, I was inspired to make this adorable Color Block Bag. I absolutely love making accessories because they’re the perfect way to punch up any outfit, and what better way to combine my love of color and accessories than with this little bag?

This bag is the perfect size for an everyday bag.  It’s small and convenient to carry around, while still being roomy enough to fit all of your essentials.  I’ve pretty much replaced my crossbody bag with this one as of late.

I chose a soft, summery yellow and paired with gray gradients for my color blocking.  It reminds me of a bumble bee. I decided to use Cascade Ultra Pima yarn for this project because it’s a wonderfully soft cotton yarn that is very easy to work with and is a really great price point. And good news! I’ve partnered with local yarn stores to put together a kit for this pattern. Get The Kit Here.

Every kit includes the digital PDF pattern for the Fringe Cardigan, plus all of the yarn you need to bring this project to life. You can feel good about your purchase because you’re supporting a small business who is passionate about crochet. I love supporting other makers, and it’s great to be a part of such a supportive community. You can get the kit here. This is a great pattern to make with your kids or friends.  It’s an easy pattern that uses single crochet and the Suzette stitch for simplicity mixed with a gorgeous pop of texture.

Round Crochet Bag with Tassel Pattern - A round crochet bag that could take along with you to lunch with your girlfriends, or to a night out on the town. #crochetpattern #crochetbag #crochetlove #crochetpurse

Round Crochet Bag with Tassel Pattern

We’re ultra excited to share this bag with you. We wanted to design something you could take along with you to lunch with your girlfriends, or to a night out on the town. It quickly became a favorite design – and we want to take it everywhere.

You’ll need to grab three skeins of yarn in your favorite color, and get crocheting. You can pick whatever color matches what you wear most. Classic black? A complimentary tone?

You’ll be working in magic rings. If you’ve never used them before, well, they’re just as fun as they sound. Learn this new skill if you’ve never crocheted using magic rings before, or continue to perfect an old skill. At the end, you’ll have a practical, gorgeous bag to add to your collection.

Round Crochet Bag with Tassel Pattern

Difficulty: Beginner

MATERIALS:

Yarn: Blue Sky Worsted Weight Cotton- Bone 200 yds, Blue Sky Worsted Weight Cotton- True Red – 15 yds

Hook: 5.5mm hook, 4.5mm hook

Tools: Yarn needle, Scissors, 6-inch cardboard square

Round Crochet Bag with Tassel Pattern

ABBREVIATIONS:

Sc: single crochet

Dc: double crochet

Sl st: slip stitch

St: stitch

PATTERN:

Using the 5.5mm hook, begin with a magic circle, and make 8 single crochet stitches

Row 1: Ch 1 and make a sc into the first st. Make 2 sc in each st around, sl st to join

Row 2: Ch 1 and make a sc into the first st. Make 1 sc into the next st, then 2 into the next.

Row 3: Ch 1 and make a sc into the first st. Make a sc into the next 2 st, then 2 into the next.

Rows 4- 20: Continue increasing the number of single crochets between increasing stitches. For example, row 4 will have 3 sc between the increasing stitch, row 5 will have 4, etc.

Round Crochet Bag with Tassel Pattern

ASSEMBLY:

Placing the right sides of the work together, whip stitch the piece together leaving 45 stitches open on top. To make handles, sl st to join and make 15 sc, ch 30, sk 15, then make 15 more sc. Do not ch, turn work and sl st back over the 15 sc of the previous row. Make 45 dc in the ch 30 sp, then 15 more sl st down the other side. Break yarn, and repeat on the other side.

With the red yarn, ch 30 using a 4.5mm hook, leaving long tails on both ends.

Make tassel by wrapping the red yarn around the cardboard square about 40 times. Cutting just the working thread, leave the yarn wrapped around the cardboard and thread yarn needle with about 18 inches of red yarn. Slide needle under the yarn on the cardboard, and tie a loose knot with the yarn threaded on the needle. Cut the bottom of the yarn on the cardboard, then tighten the knot at the top. Wrap the yarn on the needle securely around the tassel, about 1” down. Pull snugly, then secure with a knot. Pull up through top to use to attach to chain. Weave ends in, pulling any long tails down in to blend in with tassel.
