Easy Striped Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern

I am incredibly excited to share this post with you today! I’m no stranger to crocheting a baby blanket. But this time I tried something different.  Introducing my very first knitting pattern, the Easy Striped Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern.

As most of you already know, I’m a crocheter through and through but lately, I’ve been feeling a call to try knitting. I tried to knit years ago but I found it slow and hard to hold. It was also ridiculously challenging whenever I made a mistake.

But what I love about knit baby blanket patterns is the beautiful fabric it produces. I’ve found myself drooling over the texture and draping of knit patterns many, many times. I decided to try to put my former bad experience behind me and try afresh with this hand-knit blanket.

After a couple of months playing around with various knitting styles, I ended up landing on combined knitting which is just that, a combination of Western and Eastern knitting styles. It feels much more natural to me as a crocheter as I hold the yarn in my left hand and the hand movements seem smaller and with less motion.

Once I finally settled on combined knitting, I had the confidence to try to make my first knitting pattern. I just had to decide what that would be.

As luck would have it, I haven’t had a reason to make a baby blanket in quite a long time but I recently found out that my daughter’s amazing gymnastics coach is expecting a baby in the spring.

My first thought, of course, went to thinking of a great new crochet baby blanket pattern. But then I paused and considered what it would be like to challenge myself with a knit baby blanket instead.

I’m not going to lie. I was intimidated to start this process. I even considered choosing one of the many free knitting patterns for baby blankets online. After a little hesitation, I decided it was worth the challenge and started envisioning my knit blanket pattern design. And I am so glad I did.

I really outdid myself with this free knitting pattern, especially since it’s my first one ever. The pattern has a tricolor striped design. The striped fabric is surrounded by a textured border created using the seed stitch. But what I love most about this baby afghan is the beautiful drape it has.

I put a lot of time thinking up what yarn to make this easy baby blanket with. I finally settled on Berroco Vintage DK weight yarn. It’s an acrylic wool blend yarn that’s perfect for a finer gauge. I noticed a lot of baby knitting projects were textured and chunky. And I wanted this baby blanket to have a more polished look, making this DK weight perfect. It’s even machine washable which is always a good choice for a baby blanket.
